The right price

Posted on 24 April, 2013 by Christer Löfgren in The Rondo Method

”REPRO & REZYcom shall offer our customers an increased competiveness”

It is our ambition the REPRO & REZYcom shall always have a clear price advantage when compared to a corresponding product based on new material. Even if the refining and quality assurance of recycled raw material naturally adds costs, all in all, there shall always be a clear price benefit from using recycled material.

We have also intentionally concentrated our development work and production on a limited number of products. This limits our product range to a certain extent, but it also gives us a clear advantage. It means that we can more easily focus and direct our development work, which in turn strengthens our product quality and gives us a more competitive cost situation.

The price of raw material naturally has significance, but our primary focus is that REPRO and REZYcom shall provide an increased competitive advantage for our customers based on a wider cost perspective that includes product quality and processability amongst other things.

Rondo Plast AB is a fully owned subsidiary of Polykemi AB. The mission of Rondo Plast is to provide quality assured and recycled plastic raw materials. The company started in 1980 and has over the years built up a highly skilled knowledge and experience in plastic recycling.

The main products are included in REPRO range, which offers a standard assortment of recycled plastic materials based on PP, ABS, PBT, PA66 and PC / ABS. The REZYcom range give the possibility to offer customer adapted materials with a recycled raw material base for your specific application.

This strong product range has developed into a fruitful and intensive cooperation with the parent company. A collaboration where we have succeeded in uniting Rondo vast experience of recycling with Polykemis well-known and established knowledge from technical compounding. We have simply succeeded in establishing a well-developed cooperation that unites and offers the best of both worlds!

Production

Posted on 24 April, 2013 by Christer Löfgren in Rondo

The first stage of Rondo’s production is a recycling process with technology for particle-size determination, metal separation and homogenization. In this stage the raw material is refined so that any contaminants are separated from the material flow using advanced process automation.

The next stage in the production process is technical compounding. a process where we mix plastic raw materials, additives and reinforcements – all based on product specific recepies . This is done by melting the plastic raw material into a melted mass and then precisely mixing a number of finely divided raw materials into the mass all in high precision. In some of our customer specific REZYcom materials, this step also consists of the addition a certain percentage of virgin prime raw material all in order to secure obtaining the agreed customer quality.

The final products are homogenous quality-specific plastic granules and after quality control in out laboratory the material is ready for delivery to our customers.

Rondo’s unique product quality

Posted on 24 April, 2013 by Christer Löfgren in The Rondo Method

”Rondos limited product range allows a specific focus on quality work.”

Historically, sometimes recycled plastics has had a poor reputation as far as quality is concerned. A reputation that in all honesty has not always been undeserved. Without doubt, recycled plastic raw materials can be of poor quality, but it can also be of very good quality This valuable insight is the basis of our work at Rondo. Our quality processes and our quality development are based on just this. As a result of this insight, our quality processes always start at our suppliers.

We put a lot of effort into securing the origin of the raw material. We can thus determine the quality level of the raw material at an early stage. Our quality and manufacturing processes are then systematically integrated in both the qualitative upgrading process and the following compounding process of the raw material.

Starting off from a base of recycled raw material places greater demands from a quality perspective, in comparison with a base comprising new material. In order to give our customers an even high quality, we have therefore chosen, from a strategic approach, to limit our product range.

We can therefore give each product the time and care needed to ensure the correct quality level. We have, from a quality perspective, gone from doing everything for everybody, to instead limiting our selection to high standard products in high quality for those customers who need just the REPRO qualities.

This naturally does not prevent us from having a certain flexibility. We also develop interesting and exciting customer-specific projects within our REZYcom range. However, we do not do this without first, together with the customer, answering the question: – Can we manage to deliver the right quality in the long run? Our experienced and competent laboratory personnel work in a modern and highly technical laboratory. All of our REPRO and REZYcom products are naturally manufactured, quality-controlled and delivered against a product-specific demand specification.

A clear environmental benefit

Posted on 24 April, 2013 by Christer Löfgren in The Rondo Method

”To use recycled raw materials is obviously an environmental benefit”

We live in a world where we have the possibility to positively influence our surrounding environment. It therefore feels very good and satisfying to know that Rondo can offer a product with a clear environmental benefit. It is also very satisfying and pleasant to see that more and more companies see this possibility and appreciate the chance to choose a raw material with such a great environmental benefit.

REPRO & REZYcom products are always based on more than 50% recycled plastic raw material. Many of the products contain 100% recycled plastic raw material. The concentration of recycled plastic raw material is mainly determined by the quality aspect. For certain recipes, particular components may be more difficult to quality assure when it concerns recycled plastic raw material. We never compromise on quality. When necessary, we use new material to ensure that we always have the right quality level.

A question we often hear is how large is the environmental benefit when recycled raw material is used instead of new? Here is a little example. With unfilled polypropylene, the use of 1 ton of recycled plastic results in a reduction of CO2 emissions equivalent to more than 7,000 km of driving in a medium size car that releases 140 g CO2 per km. This example shows that we can influence the environment through more thoughtful choices!
